It is another species on which limited information is available – there is still work left for ornithologists outside of the determination of mitochondrial DNA. Who would have thought.

Last year, in November, I notched up a dozen species of butterflies, an impressive total anywhere in Europe so late in the year. Wintering Wallcreepers are always a possibility, too, generally in quarries where Eagle Owls are resident. We did get introduced to Geiner Huertas Reyes, who took us for a walk along part of the river and into a public park, where we put together a nice list of 61 species. Another species in the long name category, would be this Common Chlorospingus. Costa Rica certainly has a few birds with some amazingly long names.

After writing this last sentence, I looked up the species in the HBW and found the sentence “Song poorly documented” in the appropriate section, while with regard to calls, the description is that “call is a two-note raspy nasal ‘ryeeh-reh’”.
