There wasn’t much around, and aside from a lifer Yellow-bellied Bulbul the two most impressive species were heard not seen – a Blue-headed Pitta an a Banded Kingfisher. I’ll admit that, on the first day, the birds didn’t impress. An oversubscribed night drive didn’t help.

There were several sandy patches that showed evidence of small mammals, but they were no doubt nocturnal. I am uncertain of the exact species of dragon that we commonly found on the rim. We actually have this species at home in our own garden, so it was nice to see the species so far away in the desert. Dragon on the rim.
