Count Your Chickens (In the Florida Keys)

But as of right now there is nowhere in the United States where a birder can see a chicken and count it on his or her list despite the fact that there is a well established and long lasting Feral Chicken population in the Florida Keys. It is time for the Florida Ornithological Society to allow for the counting of Feral Chickens.

The Collins Bird Guide, 3rd edition

Forget occasional escapees, there is an established feral population successfully breeding in the north of Germany, which was 131 birds strong last year. Europe’s relief makes it a particularly hard continent to present bird distributions on a small scale and I wish it was possible to enlarge the maps.

Mallards are a Threat to Mottled Ducks in Florida

State biologists are observing more and more mixed flocks and mixed pairs in the wild and these feral mallards are mating with mottled ducks, producing a hybrid offspring.

Invasive species in Australia

There are wild dogs present and these are not the dingo, but a dog that was also brought to Australia by Europeans in 1788 and has spread throughout the country. Feral cats have been able to adapt very well in Australia and have grown larger over the years and can survive in areas that you would not expect.

Return to the Poo Ponds

We are unsure as to what the bird population is there, but there are a lot less birds present at the old ones. They had to close their Poo Ponds to tourists/birders recently due to a feral dog problem, but this has been addressed and access is now possible.
