This leaves Shanghai in June with basically just the year-round species and the summer breeders, maybe with a few added ultra-lazy individuals of migratory species. Fortunately, there are a few more such breeding species than most Shanghainese are aware of. Here’s a video. Also as video.

Birding Hongbenghe, Yunnan (Part 1)

Given that according to the HBW, the species prefers dense primary and secondary montane forests, the note that the bird also forages among kitchen waste (in the same HBW entry) seems somewhat incongruous. Quite possibly, this laughingthrush is now locally extinct in Switzerland or at least in Basel. I wonder why. ” ( source ).

Birding Shanghai in May 2023 – Part 1

I like it for its easily recognizable vocalizations which eBird describes as follows: “Raucous, with a diverse repertoire; squawks and chatters loudly, but also whistles tunefully” Frankly, the Brown-chested Jungle Flycatcher ( video ) does not look like much – but it is rare at Nanhui and listed as Vulnerable.

A Water Ouzel Nest at Lassen Volcanic National Park

One of the best things about our annual Audubon chapter’s Lassen Park campout is that we get to see several species of mountain birds that we don’t normally see in the Sacramento Valley. Ruby-throated Hummingbird Nest at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge

And it is even less frequent in New York City where we only have one species of hummingbird, the Ruby-throated Hummingbird , and they don’t nest very often. At the beginning of the video the hummingbird is busy adding more spider silk to the nest. How cool would it be if I manage to get video of her feeding youngsters?
