Once upon a time in Bojcinska Forest

Gazetted as the “nature monument” in 2013, one of the few remaining – Bojcinska Forest by the village of Progar covers 670 ha / 1650 ac, with around 108 bird species and some 60 species of mammals. During WWII, the forest was used as a base of the local Partisan squad (the communist resistance), hiding in subterranean shelters.

Guyana had been suffering from an extensive period of drought when we visited, this lack of water ultimately was the primary reason which prevented us from searching for the Harpy Eagle. I had dreams of photographing this species, as I knew there were a few that notoriously frequented the grounds at Atta Lodge.

Birdy Boating in Baringo

Drifting slower and looking closer, we observed a tiny Malachite Kingfisher hunting in the sheltered shallows. The now familiar sound of a pair of African Fish-Eagles dominated the soundscape. Blue-cheeked Bee-eater (above), African Fish-Eagle (below). Squacco Heron. This tiny kingfisher thoroughly excited everyone on board.

Birding Pulau Ubin-Singapore

There are plenty of lookouts and shelters, but there is no drinking water available at the toilet facilities, so you need to carry plenty of water. Although the tide was in we were still able to observe several species of shorebird on Pulau Sekudu. Grey-headed Fish Eagle. Shorebirds on Pulau Sekudu.

Bird Counts and Cold Fronts in Costa Rica

Hard to beat the cool factor of a Crested Eagle. Those were some interesting additions to a day of birding that also gave us more expected ones like Bat Falcon, Black-collared Hawk, Bare-crowned Antbird , and 125 other species. The Uncommon Demise of a Wood Thrush in Costa Rica

Each day, the small bird then has to fly down and find a resting place, an area to feed and take shelter. If it finds a good spot to survive for several months, a spot with enough food and shelter, it might be able to fly all the way back to the north for another summer of song and nesting.
