Clapper and King rails may represent four or five species

Clapper Rails , as currently defined by the AOU, occur along the coasts of North and South America and Caribbean islands, and inland in southern California and Arizona. The photo above, one of mine, shows a Clapper Rail in Louisiana. King Rails occur widely in eastern North America, in eastern and central Mexico, and in Cuba.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Proposes 2015 Expansion of Hunting and Fishing Opportunities on National Wildlife Refuges

The Service also proposes expanding hunting and sport fishing on the following refuges: California. The Louisiana black bear’s threatened status warrants protection under sections 7 and 9 of the Endangered Species Act. The State of Louisiana has increased fines for illegal killing of bears.
