The other day, Minneapolis, Minnesota passed a feral cat ordinance. So I put together a “carnival” (of sorts) of Feral Cat Ordinances and Issues that samples current events across the US. From the Star Tribune : Feral cats win a round at Minneapolis City Hall. This got me wondering what other cities were doing.

Though the Hawaiian Petrel lives throughout the Hawaiian islands, its numbers are low, and fewer than 100 pairs breed in the Big Island’s Hawaiian Volcanoes Natural Park (also home to the Mauna Loa volcano). Part of the threat to the birds’ existence has been ravaging by feral cats , which eat both adults and chicks alike.

Several months ago, a group of bat researchers spent the night recording the sounds of a marshy Spanish forest. A group of researchers at the N.C. Unfortunately these are house cats, not feral, that live outdoors (for some reason).

Invasive species in Australia

Feral cats have been able to adapt very well in Australia and have grown larger over the years and can survive in areas that you would not expect. We have seen them on remote beaches hunting shorebirds and taking their eggs and they have been responsible for much of the egg loss in breeding Pied Oystercatchers along the Broome coast.
