A World Turned Upside Down

10,000 Birds

And now, in my long-term home of Michoacán, Mexico, we have experienced a one-year drought unlike anything I have seen in my 30 years here. So when there is no Lake Cuitzeo on which to winter, where do all these birds go? There were plenty of other birds in the area, with 72 species around the reservoir for the day.

The Usual Suspects

10,000 Birds

I often find myself discussing this subject with my birder friends in other regions of Mexico, when they excitedly comment on seeing a bird that I could see any day, anywhere — or vice versa. Cattle Egrets in La Paz, Mexico

10,000 Birds

Lots of the migrant birds are starting to return to Mexico. Some in great numbers, some, just a single bird or two. None of these birds are rarities, and would never be considered a species to get all twitter-pated about. None the less, fresh new birds to photograph is always a great thing for me!
