These are the largest Babblers in Australia and inhabit the area from the north-west of Western Australia right down the east coast. Out of all those truly magnificent African birds, he asks for something that lives mostly in Eurasia, but also Australia and the very southern tip of Africa. The Masked Lapwing does however have two subspecies nowadays and is the Vanellus novahollandiae in south-east Australia. On that visit we paddled from Lake Argyle back to Kununurra over three days and that was a magnificent experience. Our most recent experience was of a lone Black Swan resting on the shoreline and then waddling out to float around in the surf for some time before returning once again to shore.
