The most common species we see are the Stoke’s Sea Snake Astrotia stokesii , Dubois’ Sea Snake Aipysurus duboisii and the Olive Sea Snake Aipysurus laevis. She has lived in the Middle East and the United States and traveled extensively in Europe. They are relatively helpless and immobile on land.

White-breasted and Red-breasted Nuthatches can be found across almost the entire continent, Brown-headed Nuthatches are common in the southeastern United States and Pygmy Nuthatches liven up outings in the mountain west. That leaves only two species with a decent range and a distinct look. Pity the poor European birders.

Not only is the book reproduction cleaner and the colors brighter, it is slightly cropped so that the bird jumps off the page at you, but also cropping out the species name. As I said before, the book plates utilize the species names used in the original books and drawings.

There is a Linnet at Kissena Corridor Park in Queens, and though I bird this park regularly, the Linnet, a bird regularly found in Europe, Asia, and North Africa and also named in a sweet song by Stephen Sondheim (Green Finch and Linnet Bird from Sweeny Todd) has eluded me. I needed a book showing a Linnet. A miscellaneous pot indeed!

According to this Associated Press story, if you are wearing a Sean John jacket with fur trim purchased from Macy's, that trim might have come from a dog indigenous to Asia known as a "raccoon dog." They belong to the canine species Nyctereutes procyonoides.
