Back when I started birding during my youth in California, it didn’t take long for me to notice and appreciate how Northern Mockingbirds would sometimes do backflips in the air while singing. Blue-black Grassquits are tiny birds, only four inches long, that are very common in subtropical savannah habitats from Mexico to Argentina.

In any case, screech-owls are birds of the Megascops genus, small nocturnal owls found in wooded habitats from southern Alaska to northern Argentina. There’s a King Penguin ( Aptenodytes patagonicus ) on the label, a very first appearance for the Spheniscidae family here at Birds and Booze. This is somewhat surprising, given the perennial popularity of these birds in culture and advertising. Good birding and happy drinking! Except birders. We know better.

It is a common bird of humid, lowland forest in Central and South America where it is usually found in the lower storey. This individual was seen in Costanera Sur, Argentina and found a gentle pish to be simply irresistible. The Argentinian birds come from the B.c. This is a Golden-crowned Warbler , Basileuterus cucilivorus.

The accepted popular name may be woodpecker, but like so many birds, it has a few pet names used by those who are familiar with the species. This gull inhabits the high Andean plateau of Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina at elevations ranging from 3300 to 4400 m (10827 to 14436 feet). Given the scavenger feeding habits of the Turkey Vultures , the small mammals and birds that are on the menu for the Zone-tailed hawks are lulled into complacency by the lack of threat from the vultures.
