In 2015, a group submitted a petition to FWS to delist the warbler , relying on a study conducted by Texas A&M University that reported a far larger population and much more appropriate habitat than prior studies.

We have done some bush-walking this week around Broome as the weather permits, but still no luck with finding any Snipe species for the 2017 list ! Jack Snipe are incredibly well camouflaged and could easily be missed just like all of the snipe species! Two Jack Snipe at roost. The weather may have had something to do with that!

Somehow I forgot that the last time I predicted what the next ten species I would see in Queens would be was back on 30 December 2013, when my list was sitting at 302. The godwit was my forty-first shorebird species in Queens.).

The black-headed Gouldian Finches have remained in the same area feeding on the grass seeds with the other finches and were our 75th bird for 2017 and the male Gouldian Finch features in the header photo.

Sarus Cranes are a slightly taller species than the Brolga and also appear to be a paler grey. Both species inhabit the same sort of environment and every flock of tall cranes that we encountered during our drive to Karumba consisted of both species. The birds were feeding in the tall dry grass and also close to water.

Birds of the Indonesian Archipelago covers 1,417 species, 601 endemics, 98 vagrants, 8 introduced and 18 undescribed species. Only one bird species has become extinct (Javan Lapwing), but many others are endangered, with some considered close to extinction (not surprising in an area with species restricted to one or two small islands).

When we spent a few weeks in Melbourne in the summer of 2015, which was February, I would often walk to Albert Park. I would do a lap of the lake and take in all of the different species of birds that called the city home. It had received the metal band and numerical band on 9th May 2017 in the same location.
