There is a virtual flock of new and interesting bird science news all of the sudden, including the rediscovery of an extinct Bahama Nuthatch. It was always thought that humans first inhabited the island of Madagascar about four or five thousand years ago or so. If they are the only evidence of humans, then not fine.

As if to stamp its approval on the habitat alteration, a Pale-breasted Spinetail voiced its content with the human disturbance. These birds are typically found in scrub and open habitat, how this individual was able to locate this field within the Northern Range is testament to the scale of human disturbance along the roadway.

A declawed, defanged bear is chained to a stake as hunting dogs bark and snap, trying to force the bear to stand on its hind legs. Hunters say the exercise popular in the state's hilly northwestern corner helps them train their dogs on what to do when they come across a bear during a hunt. State law on the issue is murky.

Canada and Greenland Defend Seal Hunting

Canadian fisheries ministry representative Garry Stenson said the hunt “is humane, well regulated and sustainable” and that new rules for the hunt were under review to strengthen inspections, monitoring and enforcement of animal welfare rules. The article does say that the Inuit communities would have special exemptions.
