The Uncommon Demise of a Wood Thrush in Costa Rica

If Wood Thrush hasn’t been documented as Cane Toad prey, it can now be added to the list. The rails did indeed come to investigate but came up empty-beaked. Giving in to his innate desire to investigate natural happenings, Cope went to the other side of the feature to shed some light on the situation.

July 24, 2010 BP brazenly says an internal investigation has cleared the company of all gross negligence in the spill.

First Outbreak of Usutu Virus in Germany

This thrush is extremely common in urban and suburban Germany and one of the most conspicuous bird species here, comparable to the American Robin in North America. A few dead birds were collected by authorities and sent to a laboratory for investigation. and species breeding in cavities are less affected.

There is also a major section on 180 bird species that is 123 pages long, about 1/3 of the book. The section is dominated by large portraits of the 180 birds that have been documented by Project FeederWatch as visiting feeders across North America (most of which do not come to my feeders, so reading it made me a little sad and jealous).

My surprise at reading such a detailed account (I don’t have Klem’s dissertation in front of me, but I’m imagining this is a more personal retelling) was tempered by the thought that Klem wasn’t describing any old research, this was the FIRST research project investigating why birds fly into glass.
