According to Reuters: Japan, which considers whaling to be a cherished cultural tradition, killed 679 minke whales despite plans to catch around 850. It caught just one fin whale compared with a target of 50 in the hunt that began in November. That's one result.

I may have very limited experience with dolphins and no experience with whales, but the illustrations show the entire animal in the way only divers can see it, without a second illustration of the tail shape, something whale-watchers can actually spot from a boat.

We should see a variety of marine life and even if the sightings are slow we will definitely have lots of Northern Gannets (like in the picture at the top of this post) which should be seen from a boat to be properly appreciated. Past trips have had jaegers, Humpback Whales , and a variety of other sea life.

The Glossary is brief, two pages; it covers many of the more technical terms used in the Species Accounts and I like the definitions, which are clearly written.

Chacachacare was also the site of a US Army base, a leper colony, and before that, a whaling station. The bird of the day was definitely this White Hawk ! I will definitely return to the island sometime soon and try my luck for that Streaked Saltator. There were also several Yellow-headed Caracaras vocalizing.
