The return of the Old Man

10,000 Birds

Despite the fact that efforts are made to ensure they are not imprinted on humans, they are naturally confiding, even friendly. Many have been shot since the project started, despite a great deal of publicity raising awareness of the birds. It may not be beautiful, but it’s a bird with definite charisma.

Post Apocalyptic Steampunk Birding

10,000 Birds

The wok of an alarmed Black-crowned Night-Heron and the thin whistle of a Yellow-breasted Flycatcher made me stop and realize it was definitely lining up to be a rather birdy morning. These scarce residents are rarely seen – and even when visible, are usually quite wary of humans.

Guardians of human health, and a pretty awesome bird species as well … what a package! We definitely found the right bird for the job! He was slowly starving himself to death. Why was he attracted to children?

On Compassionate Carnivores and Betrayal

Animal Person

Stephanie's post about " The Compassionate Hypocrite " on Saturday reminded me of what Catherine Friend and other " compassionate carnivores " are doing in addition to twisting the definition of compassionate beyond recognition. Interesting definitions of betray include: 2. It's cruel. There's no "compassion" in the process.
