Cattle Egrets using public transport. Not too many raptors, but at least an African Fish Eagle. Some more Mkuze birds for which I cannot come up with a semi-interesting caption right now … African Jacana. Alone time. Taking a bath …. And drying on a giraffe with your friends. What a life. African Pygmy Kingfisher.

The first thing to appear was its yellow bill – a locally rare Cattle Egret ! Farther on along the levee, there was a huge White-tailed Eagle standing on a big, old poplar. The local levee warden sometimes shepherds his cows here, and the eagle would stand right above him, giving him no second glance.

The Crocodile Safari (Botswana)

A few paddle strokes down the river and on the right bank there were four Impala antelopes ( Aepyceros melampus ). To complete the scene the African Fish Eagle ( Haliaeetus vocifer ) was circling above us, yelping a triumphant high-pitched ‘Kyowkow- kow!’. ‘By or a croc was swimming right under the bottom of the kayak….

We were able to take a thoroughly enjoyable boat ride on Lake Chamo, whose shores teem with birds, including such typical African species as African Fish Eagle, Goliath Heron the world’s largest, Yellow-billed Stork and the incomparable Hamerkop , a species in its own family. A Konso village perched atop a terraced hill.

Week 16: South Africa and Kruger National Park

The mighty rhino along with the Cattle Egret. It is incredibly hard to pick a highlight, but the Lilac-breasted Rollers, Southern Yellow-billed Hornbills, Green Wood Hoopoe and the Kori Bustard are all right up there. The African Fish Eagle was a great first day bird.
