I went to the Space Coast Birding and Wildlife Festival in Titusville, Florida. I did finally get Snowy Owls in Queens , even if they did cause a bit of controversy. March was very slow so I took the time to enjoy the common birds , especially woodpeckers and turkeys. I was pleased to add a new woodpecker to my Queens list too.

Corey encountered a bunch of winners, but 24 Common Redpolls at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, in almost the exact same spot he saw them a couple of years ago, feeding on birch inflorescence by the East Pond, were easily his best birds of the weekend. When I first saw it I thought it might be a snowy or a barn owl because it was almost white.

By March though Scandinavian Rock Pipit begins to show some changes into breeding plumage and outs itself as a migrant rather than a resident. By the way: at the Baltic coast we had large flocks of spinoletta migrating through in late March/April, and due to them moulting from non-breeding to breeding plumage, many had seemingly pale lores.
