The Latin species name vermiculatus (worm-like) refers to the markings on the upperparts. Let’s hope it can find some relatively unfragmented habitat for breeding – studies show that the failure rate of nests is much higher in fragmented habitats. The eyes make the Arrow-marked Babbler look a bit like a serial killer.

Another from the King of Spain dated 30 september 1512 refers to two turkeys which had arrived in Spain from Hispaniola.

During breeding season, their white plumage turns a delicate pink color, a lovely sight indeed.

With the help of a captive breeding program, the Peregrine bounced back, and in 1999, they were removed from the Endangered Species List. BBC Nature has a really cool video of the Peregrine hunting a pigeon in a stoop. They were officially listed as Endangered in 1970 in the U.S. Peregrine Falcon at Delevan National Wildlife Refuge.

In Grey-backed Shrikes (at least those breeding on the Tibetan plateau), the eggs laid during one breeding attempt get larger with time – presumably an attempt to at least partly overcome the disadvantages the last chick faces ( source ).
