Black-winged Stilt had obviously been breeding recently due to the presence of juveniles amongst the small flock and the Masked Lapwings and Common Greenshank were being vocal as always. It’s song was nicely summed up by Rudyard Kipling in Rikki-tikki-tavi, where the tailorbird Darzee continually and irritatingly chirps on without thought given to the content of the piece.

The material on habitat tells us that sometimes looking for odonates in the tropics means thinking outside the North American box: Bromeliads and water-holding tree holes are breeding locations for certain species, including Blue-winged Helicopter.
