The only harassment came from the resident Red-tailed Squirrel family – which seemed to be more curiosity than anything else, as their nest was just about two feet away. Both species seemed content to observe each other though. Surprisingly, a pair of Striated Herons in breeding plumage flew in as dusk tightened its grip.

City Hornbills

Okay, they weren’t as fascinating as the birds of prey eating their, or the frankly still weird drawings of nightjars carrying eggs and woodcocks carrying chicks, but still, hornbills were cool because they sealed their mates up in holes in trees and then fed them as they raised the chick. We can hope!

Noting the rare and vagrant sections in the table of contents or adding specialized index would greatly help accessibility.

The species are taxonomically divided into two families: Tytonidae, Barn-Owls, and Strigidae, Owls, encompassed in one order, Strigiformes. The chapters on courtship and breeding and roosting and migration are the longest, which isn’t surprising. They roost and hunt, at night (mostly) when we can’t see them.
