Gray Thrashers are not as conspicuous as the hummingbirds, but should not be difficult to find in the right places. They do bear some resemblance to Sage Thrashers , but have a much heavier, more sickle-shaped bill. Look for them wherever there are flowers in bloom; we saw many in Todos Santos and its outskirts.

This ‘road’ is dirt and gravel, bisects the cove right through this open valley, and is quite narrow. Think dozens and dozens of wood Warbler species. And, there are a number of species including Downy , Hairy , Red-bellied , Red-headed (increasingly difficult to find here), and Pileated Woodpeckers. Pileated Woodpecker.

Informed literature bears out my experience that most birds are seen singly or in pairs. Very interesting species. Wicked, right? The former British colony’s Z.c. melli strain is one of as many as 12 races and shows a lighter face than many of the others. Married to a Canon? That I understand! Hat-tip to Stella.
