The word titmouse descends from the Old English terms, tit (any small animal or object) and mase (small bird), essentially meaning one small, small bird. This bird ranges from southeastern Arizona down through interior Mexico. Tufted Titmouse Perhaps it has to do with the name.

He visits Arizona's Road Kill Cafe, where the menu features not-so-exotic fare. Anything for ratings I guess.

We are now headed to Tucson, Arizona, where we will park the 5th wheel for an extended amount of time, possibly as long as March 1st. You can see the two disjunct populations mapped in this animated occurrence model from eBird. The interior population migrates after nesting to stopover areas in Mexico and Arizona, molts, and then continues on to its wintering grounds. The Atlantic Coast population lingers on the breeding grounds after nesting to molt.

In 1987, only 27 were left in the wild and drastic action was taken to save the species: all remaining birds were captured, the California Condor was declared extinct in the wild, and a captive breeding program was begun, initially carried out by the San Diego Wild Animal Park and the Los Angeles Zoo.

This year, I was able to photograph the ultra rare Rufous-capped Warbler , high in the snowy mountains of southern Arizona. The people, the birds, the animals, the history, all combined to form an energy that left you wanting more. Someone entered the premises of the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum , cut the lock on the bighorn sheep exhibit, and shot the male bighorn to death. Needless to say, animal-rights and other groups are up in arms. There was a senseless killing last night. Then—and here's the grisly part—the assailant cut the sheep's head off.
