Once upon a time in Bojcinska Forest

Gazetted as the “nature monument” in 2013, one of the few remaining – Bojcinska Forest by the village of Progar covers 670 ha / 1650 ac, with around 108 bird species and some 60 species of mammals. And that is where Q. and I were heading this morning. We had a Common Cuckoo and several Northern Lapwings by the roadside.

An influx of Great Egrets

This section of the Great Northern Highway has an impressive list on eBird of 191 species along the length of highway that crosses Roebuck Plains. In 2013 we had a very wet day in June. There are currently several Swamp Harriers that are hunting across the floodplains and the other birds are nervous. Great Egrets in flight.

Best Bird of the Year 2013

As 2013 draws to a close we here at 10,000 Birds thought that it would be a great idea if we, like we did in 2010 , 2011 , and 2012 , shared our Best Birds of the Year. My best bird of the year is based on the sighting rather than the species. Only trouble is, which of the seven species I saw this year do I pick?

Rarer than Tigers: the Indian Wild Dog

Further down the road, we reach a derelict building with a large veranda hidden among the trees – an abandoned hunting lodge (if I were in a situation to invest, I would choose to upgrade this into a luxury wildlife lodge). Birds included common species such as Black Drongos , Jungle Babblers and a Hoopoe.
