Best Bird of the Weekend (Last of October 2020)

Corey had an excellent weekend’s birding, adding three species to his year list for Queens, Eared Grebe , Tundra Swan , and Red-shouldered Hawk. Of the three, Eared Grebe is far-and-away the best, as it has been since 2007 since Corey last saw one in Queens. What was your best bird of the weekend?

Violet-green Swallows Take Up Residence on my Bluebird Trail

The featured image above shows a female incubating eggs from my first resident breeding pair back in 2007. Violet-green Swallows will nest solitarily or in colonies and in my experience seem much more mellow than other swallow species. This year I have two pair nesting on two different trails!
