Did you know that every year, of the 8 million dogs and cats that enter animal shelters, 3 million of these healthy and treatable pets are euthanized? Luckily, The Shelter Pet Project hopes to change this! Here is one of the great PSAs that The Shelter Pet Project has out. It is such a sad statistic.

We recently got an email from a rescue group that specializes in blind dogs. The Blind Dog Rescue Alliance is a small group of volunteers in the United States and portions of Canada dedicated to helping blind and visually impaired dogs. Tags: people helping animals rescues. Every dog deserves a good home!

The internet evolved, and this site was created with a bigger, better vision, but the goal remained the same… help animals find homes through promoting rescue groups. Rescue Spotlight is going to be an ongoing feature here where we hope to highlight rescue groups to help them get more exposure online.

Not only has he founded his own dog rescue in honor of his beloved poodle Buddy, but he contributed to and helped raise more than $1,000,000 for The Humane Society of the United States Animal Rescue Team on during The Humane Society’s To the Rescue!

People of all ages and backgrounds brighten the ride and the book as they welcome Dorian to their homes (his blog asked for shelter and people responded, he also used a biking home-share group and motels) and help him find elusive birds (although Dorian is mostly on his own, there are occasions when help is crucial).

Rescuers from the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW – www.ifaw.org ) have mobilized to Japan to conduct an assessment and assist with animal rescue efforts following the devastating earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan. The official death toll reached 9,811 with an additional 17,541 people still missing.
