If you cannot find the nest or it’s too destroyed, do not try and raise a chick this young. It’s illegal to raise wild birds (even orphaned ones) without state and federal permits. Some rehabbers even have surrogate ducks or geese that they can raise a lone chick with and teach it to survive.

It also protects nesting turtles, which nest later in the year. The vehicle access is closed around the biggest high tides when the turtles are nesting to protect them and their nest sites. They are the only pair of Pied Oystercatchers that we know of in the Broome area that have successfully raised three chicks and that was in 2014.

This email was flagging up the activities of a ‘sporting agency’ in Britain who were offering trips/holidays to Morocco to shoot Turtle Doves.
