Other species I was looking forward to as possibilities included Anhingas , Magnificent Frigatebirds , and seeing as the sun was supposed to shine, some raptors soaring. And for rodents and reptiles as well. Also, feral Cats on islands seem to be a serious problem, causing the extirpation of some indigenous species. A hungry feral Cat in Minnesota goes and finds new prey in an area it previously had not explored, leaving the last few of one or another bird species alone for a while.

So, I welcomed the opportunity to read and review Flying Dinosaurs: How Fearsome Reptiles Became Birds , by John Pickrell, published in the United States by Columbia University Press. Things got more complicated when evidence was found that even the larger dinosaur species, such as tyrannosaurs, probably had feathers.

It took several days in Florida for the idea that I was pretty much surrounded by giant reptiles that could kill me to sink in to my brain. Alligators are often less aggressive towards humans than large crocodile species, a few of which (mainly the Nile and Saltwater Crocodiles) may prey on humans with some regularity.
