The real upside is that it is right by my house and the Tawny Owls occasionally stray into my oak tree at night. After a lot of backing and forthing, the vendor accepted our offer and the wood is to become a trust to be protected in perpetuity. Anti-social behaviour has degraded the ambience of the wood in the past. Feeder stations!

New Place in Costa Rica, New Yard List

Back in the old place, there were more birds in the nearby coffee farm but it wasn’t easy to bird because I couldn’t see it from my door and there were stray dogs. The bird we hope most to see is the endemic Cabanis’s Ground-Sparrow although Mary wants to see a Barn Owl just as much. Right at home.

Proposal 2013-A-2 would split the “Guatemalan Pygmy-Owl” ( Glaucidium cobanense ) of southern Mexico and northern Central America from the widespread Northern Pygmy-Owl ( G. gnoma ) on the basis of vocal differences and a discrete range.
