Further down the road, a flock of large swifts… about 60 Alpine Swifts , circling relatively low and giving a great performance – my biggest flock of this species ever!

We still observed 45 species of birds in the reserve in about an hour and there are always raptors to observe as well as the usual water birds. The small crocodile positions itself near the larger crocodile eating the Magpie Goose and a Black-necked Stork comes over to investigate what is going on. Smaller crocodile moving in.

I actually managed to enter the area close to the lake this week through one of the pedestrian tunnels and there were numerous Martin species nests along the pipe near the upper part of the tunnel. Martin species nest in a tunnel. I have observed Eurasian Coot with small fish and no doubt the other birds are also feeding on these.

They were even investigating an old fire pit, which was interesting to observe. It didn’t take us long to set off to go exploring to see what the area could offer and we were soon writing down a huge variety of species. All of the finch species were in good numbers and undisturbed by our presence. Crimson Finch.
