Endangered and Unknown: Red-billed Curassow

Red-billed Curassow ( Crax blumenbachii ), a large, ground-dwelling bird belonging to the same family as the more familiar Plain Chachalaca of southern Texas, was never a very widespread species. Having a family of endangered Red-billed Curassow willingly approach me to within such a short distance is definitely one of them!

They were simply sent to Family Court. Who suffers for these crimes? At the time, Justice and Mesker were 17 years old. Gutierrez was 18.

Back from Seattle

We had a blast, the family and I, and experienced some amazing natural places, to say nothing of the fine city of Seattle. Point Defiance, Protection Island, Hurricane Hill, and Sunrise all felt our footsteps to say nothing of Carkeek Park, Discovery Park, the Space Needle, and Top Pot Doughnuts. Seattleites are nice. Scary nice.

Among some other species of the kingfisher family, this species is a bit of a laughingstock. The eBird entry on the White-fronted Bee Eater is the first one I have seen that contains an exclamation mark: “They have one of the most complex of all avian societies, featuring families, clans, and pirates!”
