So I put together a “carnival” (of sorts) of Feral Cat Ordinances and Issues that samples current events across the US. Nonprofit pet protection groups would manage the program and be responsible for ensuring that cat caretakers take the required steps. This got me wondering what other cities were doing.

In the evening, we met up for the official count meeting and as with other bird counts in Costa Rica, this one was well organized and a semi-event that included coffee, some pastries, a count tee-shirt (showing a creeping Yellow-breasted Crake!), A creeping Yellow-breasted Crake from another day.

WHAT: A Dog Parade at Fox Run retirement community in Novi, MI, in which residents and their pets will stroll the runway to “put on the dog,” so-to speak. Pugs, Cocker Spaniels, Poodles, Yorkshire Terriers, Dachshunds, and Pomeranians will be among the “models” on the runway!

The event is produced by Finding One Another: Courage Beyond Measure,™an organization which seeks to honor all canine search-and-rescue teams, both at the anniversary of 9/11 and going forward. Thousands of SAR teams are expected at this moving ceremony.

Animals in the tri-state area are euthanized daily, rescue groups are unable to save as many lives as they wish, and animals spend years in boarding kennels while awaiting adopters to fall in love with them. There is an estimated 3-4million pets euthanized each year in US animal shelters. Many of these boarding animals are forgotten.
