Jamaica Birding Trip 2013 Part II

Heading out of Ecclesdown Road on the second day of my trip, I had nailed all of my targets save four species ( Caribbean Dove , Yellow-billed Parrot , Jamaican Owl , and Stolid Flycatcher ). I told her that I had three target birds left to see, and she gestured at a tree near the guesthouse where three Jamaican Owls were roosting.

Duck Migration

Then, at 6 PM, as the sun disappeared completely over the horizon, the ducks on the pond started massing on the west end of the pond, with many small flocks from all over the pond flying in to the west end until it was basically covered with ducks. Leucistic Ruddy Duck Oxyura jamaicensis

The little stiff-tails are almost year-round at Jamaica Bay though almost all leave to breed in the summer and in the depths of winter, when the ponds are almost completely frozen, they tend to head for open water. Best Bird of the Weekend (First of November 2018)

The fact that this hour falls in the middle of the night means that most people sleep right through it, but I wonder what would happen if you observes a nocturnal bird like an owl during the hour that gets reset. Could you still count it? A couple of intrepid Blue Jays may have been chasing everything else away. How about you?
