Not long after the move my friend and I were walking our dogs, early in the morning, when the dogs discovered something tiny lying in the middle of the sidewalk. Just to make sure, however, I shooed the dogs away and checked it out. The chickadee that I discovered on the sidewalk was suffering from dehydration and hypothermia.

Would anyone in this day and age dare to say that we cannot presume to know a dog’s mind, that a dog cannot tell us if it is happy or sad, frustrated, lonely or bored?
