Binocular snobbery

It was a binocular that was popular with deer stalkers, as it performed so well at dawn and dusk; it was designed for stalking rather than birdwatching. Soon afterwards I flew to Trinidad and Tobago to research for an article, and was hugely impressed with the small Swarovskis when I used them to watch tanagers and toucans in the rainforest.
