Clearly, it is disturbing enough to provoke some real discussions about the ethics of dolphins in amusement parks. I haven't and probably won't because it would disturb me too much (this blog serves that purpose already), but then again, I'm already convinced. The rest are killed with spears, knives and clubs in an orgy of cruelty.

Yesterday's lessons learned were primarily about blogging. Some of these discussions make me think: Boy, that Rick Berman, that FBI, those people who spend their lives using and killing animals for fun and profit--don't need to do much to bring this movement down because we're doing it ourselves. Today they're about language.

I've been having a difficult time blogging both here and at Animal Rights & AntiOppression lately because I feel like my thoughts are like " Groundhog Day." When I think about the language that has been used by people who kill animals or have someone else do it for them, a couple of years ago the "compassionate" trend began.

My random number of 20 Lessons Learned From 4 Years of Blogging at Animal Person (for the others go to #1-6 , #7-10 and #11 & 12 ) ends today with #13-20, which is far longer than I thought it would be. If I had it all to do again, I'd do a video blog and I'd get at least proficient at the technical aspects. Sorry about that.

My self-appointed job in this blog is to think critically about how our human lives intersect with those of sentient nonhumans, in action and thought. If they want what's best for lobsters, they should be advocating for not killing and eating them at any restaurant (and then I guess the question becomes: why stop at lobsters).

According to Reuters: Japan, which considers whaling to be a cherished cultural tradition, killed 679 minke whales despite plans to catch around 850. Here are some highlights: Mantle: "How do you respond to: Yeah, you may find something that benefits humans, but it's not worth it and it's not ethically right?" That's one result.

You should survive as best you can, and killing the birds and eating them is the only way, given the situation as described. Would it be morally permissible for you to kill some people and eat them? For nonvegetarians the choice is easy.

On the blog Animal Ethics (which I visited because of your reference to it) is the sentence "Let us temporarily assume for the sake of argument that it would be permissible to eat the flesh of an animal who was raised humanely and killed entirely painlessly." Did you notice that "who" the writer slipped in there?
