Birding Sukau, Sabah, Borneo

10,000 Birds

One nice little story for my blog post lost. A kingfisher with a somewhat deficient work ethic, I guess. Tiphys died either of a snakebite or of a mysterious illness but he was not killed by either a tiger or a rhinoceros. Or speluncaphobia? The Stork-billed Kingfisher is much bigger and easier to see. Lucky him, right?

On ANIMAL EQUALITY, by Joan Dunayer

Animal Person

A handful Animal Person readers since May of 2006, when I started this then-daily blog, have asked me if I've read Joan Dunayer. My deconstructions of the language of our relationship with sentient nonhumans in this blog--and the way I approach discussing that relationship--is similar to Dunayer's. Chance is so close!
