Crested Pigeons – Ocyphaps lophotes are very widespread throughout Australia and can easily be observed in Broome on the streetlights on a wintery morning. Although Crested Pigeons are quite a common bird Australia-wide you don’t always find a nest, so that you are able to observe the family grow.

Tawny Frogmouths breeding again

We are very lucky that here in Broome we have Tawny Frogmouths right in town. One of the adult Tawny Frogmouths appears to be blind in its right eye. We first noticed the odd eye in April this year, but it does not appear to bother it and it can still feed and obviously breed too. Tawny Frogmouth with an odd right eye.

Comb-crested Jacanas breeding near Broome

Earlier this year when we first observed Comb-crested Jacanas close to Broome they had just arrived from further north in Australia. You can see there were several occasions where they literally “sank” and then managed to right themselves.

A few more Pied Oystercatchers start to breed
