The EU's executive Commission last year proposed a range of measures to improve the welfare of the 12 million vertebrate animals used in experiments each year, mostly mice and rats. Drug industry group EFPIA said the parliament had managed to balance the protection of animals, the reality of biomedical research, and the needs of patients.

They are considered an environmental pest because they are a non-native species that inflict ecological damage.but to deal with them this way is just unacceptable. Tags: animal experimentation animal research primates medical research. Better to cull them than subject them to years of pain and loneliness in a lab.

Around 12 million animals are used each year in the European Union (EU) for research purposes. This became clear from a report addressed at the European Parliament (EP) session on May 5–7, which seeks to vote on a directive concerning animal research. I really hope this passes.

Somehow they manage to get the bird or animal to a rehabilitator, even though finding one is often a feat in itself. For one – and we’ll stick with this one issue for now – because sometimes the public decides to keep the animal they have found, just for a little while. To these people, we owe our gratitude.

Colorful bills and heads seem quite popular among Letaba’s bird species – see the African Jacana (blue and black) … … the Striated Heron (yellow and blue) … … and the Yellow-billed Stork (yellow and red). The Latin species name vermiculatus (worm-like) refers to the markings on the upperparts.

I occasionally read Scienceblog when there is mention of animal research issues. Here's the first of an apparent series by a blogger on why we need to do animal testing.part 1 - drug discovery!!! I'm not going into why I do not support animal research. Testing drugs on animal is unpleasant. No one likes doing it.
