White-tailed Eagles in Beljarica. In the summer of 2015, that proposal was scheduled for voting in the City Assembly, but was withdrawn before the vote took place. It is a spacious floodplain between the River Danube and the levee, 2.1 mi at its widest point and some 9 km2 / 3.5 mi2 of the Danube Backwaters in 2014 (cover photo).

I am scoping Great Cormorants roosting in their colony in the (now dry) flooded forest, there is one… eagle to the right of them. I am right, Kostas confirms, it is a Greater Spotted Eagle. On my latest trip home my mom and I spent a bit of time talking about Bald Eagles. Mom, who grew up in Cold Spring, was impressed as always by the tally – when she moved away in 1972 eagles were unheard-of. A 65% loss of population between 1966 and 2015 is no joke. are developed or otherwise lost.

Yesterday, Sunday, 20 December, was the 2015 Queens County Christmas Bird Count. Clapper Rail , American White Pelican , Snowy Owl , Cackling Goose , Blue-winged Teal , Bald Eagle , Lark Sparrow , Clay-colored Sparrow , Pine Warbler , and Turkey Vulture are all good birds for the count.

We were only a few miles from shore, so watching Ospreys and Bald Eagles return with fish from the Gulf was fascinating, as were the Double-crested Cormorants and Brown Pelicans that periodically flew overhead. I was thirsting for some of the species I hadn’t seen yet, and I knew my window was closing for 2015.

The flash of white in the tail and the sheer size of the bird made me think Bald Eagle and when I put my binoculars up I was correct. Talking of gulls, I had a new meeting with an old acquaintance, the Black-headed Gull ringed in 2013 in the north of the country that I already met twice in 2015 and now again – I even recognized its ring because the combination of letters sounds a bit like “Yahoo”. According to the latest research data, the total Brown Bear population in Greece is 475 to 500 and here in the Pindos range there are 350 to 400 animals (Pilidis, 2015, in pub.). Short-toed Snake-Eagle – Circaetus gallicus. Mute Swan – Cygnus olor. Great Crested Grebe – Podiceps cristatus.

We had observed Common Redshank in Broome in 2015 and 2016 and we know you can often observe them close to the Common Greenshanks in Roebuck Bay. Whistling Kites , Black Kites , Brahminy Kites and White-bellied Sea Eagles are a constant threat. Black-winged Stilt line the front of the shorebird flock.

Nathan O’Reilly’s most memorable bird was one many birders from New York State and beyond drove to see in 2015. Not only did it fly in but it attacked a Bald Eagle! The Bald Eagle was flying upside-down with talons up trying to ward off the small white falcon! Within 15 minutes the Gyrfalcon flew in.

The Hudwit edged out more than 650 other birds on my Costa Rican year list by a large margin because unlike Resplendent Quetzal , Maroon-chested Ground-Dove , Ornate Hawk-Eagle , and even Unspotted Saw-whet Owl , the last and only documentation for Hudsonian Godwit in Costa Rica occured in 1975. who knows what 2015 will bring!!! .

The 2015 Queens County Bird Club Big Sit at Fort Tilden on Saturday was a rousing success! Things really slowed down once the sun passed its midway point though Eric did his best by getting us a Barn Swallow mixed in with some Tree Swallows and a very high-flying Bald Eagle that could very easily have been missed.

Since I saw my first in February of 2014 at Breezy Point I have had two more encounters, both in February of 2015, both at Jacob Riis Park. Golden Eagle – Two weeks to the day after the Say’s Phoebe I was once again at Edgemere with my family and picked up a Golden Eagle flying past , a surprise bird for sure!

At the end of May in 2015 I wrote about the area too and there were huge numbers of birds there then. Unfortunately, the Ashy Drongos did not exactly do what he predicted that they would do – mob potential predators more frequently during the breeding season and mob the more dangerous predator (in this case, the Black Eagle) more intensely. In 2015, the price for this bird was 35 USD ( source ).

White-bellied Sea-Eagles can be observed cruising the coastline year round with their magnificent wing span and Brahminy Kites are often observed too. The largest bird of prey is the Wedge-tailed Eagle and is more often observed a few kilometres from town, though we have seen it in town over the years we have lived here.
