There are Australasian Grebes, Wandering Whistling-Ducks, Pacific Black Ducks and Little Black Cormorants present and also Magpie Geese. Magpie Geese are not always present in the Broome area, but this year good numbers came and they also bred in this area to the south of Broome. Glossy Ibis and Black-winged Stilt.

Of the Central Flyway states, Nebraska alone holds out in protecting the cranes, having proven by its longstanding Festival of the Cranes in Kearney that a crane is worth infinitely more alive and purring in the sky with its family than thudding, broken and bleeding, into a cornfield. Canada Geese and Crows can figure it out, so can Cranes.

In a funny twist of fate, it seems that 2014 will be much the same as 2012 and 2013 have been, with family trips to somewhere in France and business trips to Indonesia and Kazakhstan. The biggest surprise is a small group of 4 Snow Buntings, very unusual for the Mediterranean coast but apparently not unheard of in the Camargue.
