It watched me, calmly, until I sat down about 7 feet away (almost at minimum focusing distance) and we both regarded each other, and I occasionally raised the camera and snapped off another frame. I knew that it was a behaviour that was common in owls but I had never even heard of it with hawks before.

I photographed this Guianan Cock-of-the-rock at a lek site near Surama, deep in the rainforest zone of Guyana, and my incredible experience with Andean Cock-of-the-rocks was at a display lek on the edge of the town of Jardin, in the coffee-belt of Colombia, both just incredible birds that make the heart soar with joy!

The Oriental Scops Owl may well be my favorite species passing through Nanhui, Shanghai during migration. Maybe it was raised by some caged birds in close proximity to humans, though I lack any proof of this theory whatsoever.
