And, in a tree off to the right in that direction, I noticed a mass of stuff that resembled a Bald Eagle’s nest as much as any mass of stuff ever could, but of course, it was not a bald eagle nest. Eagles like their nests a bit farther from roads than that. Eagles don’t like being near developed landscapes.

Booted Eagle by Kostas Papadopoulos The next morning was a lazy one, a late breakfast and even later excursion. Later in the day, roadside birds included a Booted Eagle and a Levant Sparrowhawk. What amazed me is that, instead of the usual 6 or 8 slices, this pizza was cut into tiny, bite-size slices!

Soon, an immature White-tailed (Sea) Eagle was above us, with a smallish carp in its talons (click on the photo to enlarge it). Attracted by all the commotion, one adult White-tailed Eagle joins the chase and after several impressive maneuvers (the “wow” factor included), young eagle drops the fish.

According to the Birds of the Western Palearctic , they will attack Ravens and Egyptian and Griffon Vultures if they stray too close to their nest sites, while ignoring buzzards harriers and kites. However, the appearance of a Peregrine or Booted Eagle “causes widespread panic at the colony, birds circling up high into the sky to avoid them”.

If there’s one common theme to this week’s bird news items, it’s their collective bizarreness: The eagle has landed—on the drone, as France trains birds to take out drones that stray into restricted airspace.

Although I love dogs they're too dependent on humans, it's true that stray/feral dogs can form packs and survive in the wild a regular dog like a golden retriever would get eaten by a lion instantly. The ones who would last until the very end would be lions , tigers bears, eagles and wolves. Cats would be the next.

The area is known for more than 600 bird species, of which 472 were eBirded by now: Cinereous Vulture , Pallas’s and Lesser Fish Eagles , Ibisbill , Wallcreeper , etc. Other wildlife includes Asian Elephant , Tiger and Gaur (highway 37 passes through the park and the rhinos and wild elephants can be spotted straying near the road).
