Booted Eagle by Kostas Papadopoulos The next morning was a lazy one, a late breakfast and even later excursion. Later in the day, roadside birds included a Booted Eagle and a Levant Sparrowhawk. What amazed me is that, instead of the usual 6 or 8 slices, this pizza was cut into tiny, bite-size slices!

, and at the same time not grumpy enough to make them draw their guns (yep – it’s a true story, but do not trust the first impression: they were rough on the outside and soft on the inside, e.g. being fiercely protective of stray dogs and cats – that particular guy kept about five dogs and 15 cats, and they all lived together peacefully).

On their breeding grounds in Spain, Lesser Kestrels are very much city birds, for 95% of the population nests in towns. The kestrel colony is valued by the city of Seville: in recent years renovation work on the roof of the cathedral was suspended during the falcons’ breeding season.

Although they breed on the west coast of Florida, Snowy Plover is a rare stray to this part of the state. A La Sagra’s Flycatcher, a Caribbean stray, continued at Charles Deering Estate. Bald Eagle: 6. Glossy Ibis: 21. Roseate Spoonbill: 4. Black Vulture: 290. Turkey Vulture: 2,197. Osprey: 26. White-tailed Kite: 2.

And, in a tree off to the right in that direction, I noticed a mass of stuff that resembled a Bald Eagle’s nest as much as any mass of stuff ever could, but of course, it was not a bald eagle nest. Eagles like their nests a bit farther from roads than that. Eagles don’t like being near developed landscapes.
