Phillipps’ Field Guide (I’ll be using this shortened form of the title) covers 673 avian species, including 59 endemics, and 53 species that have not been documented yet for the area but which may show up in the next few years. Borneo, the authors say, is under-birded. I think we need to do something about that.

I was happy to see that the Mississippi Kite map documents the kite’s incursion into the Northeast, including two notable nesting sites in New Jersey and New Hampshire. Crossley aims to educate, and his guides, with their mixed-species pages and quizzes, are excellent interactive tools for learning hawk identification.

I didn't like the idea of the cloud for categories at first, but now I do because it's a great visual tool to determine what someone's focus (including mine) is. That's a far more useful tool than categories (not that they're the same thing). That's how you build a following and spread your ideas and your writing.

Lisa had climbed down too, and the Nature Center worker had gone for tools. But, it is a documented bird threat! I ran over the rocks, thankful I was wearing non-slip hiking boots, to where Eric was retrieving the Prothonotary Warbler from between two rocks. The warbler had gotten stuck. It is a filter feeder, not a bird eater.

The authors explain the importance of documenting this stage of the life cycle. Though a little larger, at 6-inches x 8-1/2-inches, then pocket-sized, they fit handily into a backpack.
