Whenever it tries to get near me I would stomp my foot on the ground to get it away, or sometimes I would have to chase him away out of the house when I would be having a peaceful meal or cooking food and he would try different ways to eat my food. This weekend it was the turn of Wellington, where I live, to experience a strong quake, albeit onto one nearly as destructive or tragic. The quake’s epicenter was in the Cook Straight between Wellington and Blenheim, in a fault that scientists hadn’t really known before.

Such meditative birding is, for me, the heart of the experience. Because if one can derive similar enjoyment from eating plant-based foods, then all of the suffering and the premature death inflicted upon the animal is gratuitous.
