The accounts aim for specificity and authority; dates and locations of rarity sightings are given, and research articles on nesting and behavior are cited. Even during the breeding season the birds appear to be quite unwary of humans.

Cats migrate out of the parks and live in areas where the researchers found the cats to be both fatter and less diseased. They are invasive species.

The latter paper makes me glad not to be involved in ornithological research, as it casually mentions that “Munias proved difficult to maintain in captivity, would not eat, and generally died within a day or two.”
