Now that passerine migration has largely wound down the attention of this New York birder has shifted to seabirds, shorebirds, and the occasional trip looking for breeding birds. Dunlin in breeding plumage are sexy beasts. Eh, Semipalmated Sandpipers. Even a blurred-out Dunlin in the background is more exciting.

A Brant With Bling

And while I didn’t find anything rare hiding amid the hordes of Branta bernicla I did manage to find one that was banded and color tagged. I was also notified of a study of Brant behavior that is being done collectively by wildlife agencies from New Jersey, New York, and Canada. What could that possibly be?
