While the P-a-P Wildfowl Trust’s main thrust is the breeding and release of five duck species, the habitat encourages a number of native wetland birds to inhabit and proliferate the area. While enjoying the family of Wattled Jacanas , a female Green Kingfisher flew in to an overhanging branch and sat there for several minutes.

Its mostly found on the ground in thickets or the edges of dense vegetation and usually in small family parties. Pink-backed Pelican. Brown Pelicans , and the northernmost Brown Booby breeding colony on this side of the Pacific. Ringer Anhingas and darters , cormorants and shags , frigatebirds , gannets and boobies , pelicans , and the tropicbirds all share a characteristic found in no other living bird: Their feet are totipalmate.

Since 1966, when the Breeding Bird Survey first began monitoring, numbers have declined 79 percent. We need to create bridges (and a very happy experience with a local ranching family led us to believe that this is possible). Yes, it takes a village to locate a Sprague’s Pipit. back to the birds.

Mottled Duck ? May – Migration’s Peak and Breeding Begins. We had a wonderful family vacation in Germany and the Czech Republic during which I managed to do a bit of birding. Driving through dairy country we soon added Australian Wood Duck , Pacific Black Duck , Grey Teal , Grey Fantail , Wedge-tailed Eagle , Laughing Kookaburra , Eastern Rosella and Superb Fairy-wren to the 2020 Year List. Eurasian Coot are always there, but I was delighted to find several Blue-billed Ducks to add to the list.
