Just yesterday I learned that the Barn Owl ( Tyto alba ) is the only breeding bird found in New York that has been documented nesting in every month of the year. This bit of trivia was given in an article in my local bird club’s monthly newsletter about the ongoing breeding bird atlas in New York State.

The Owls of Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park, Texas

There are an additional 1,200 acres of surrounding protected refuge, supporting a documented 525 bird species! One of the highlights of birding in this Texas state park is the chance to see five owl species that breed here. Both of these have been documented in the Lower Rio Grande Valley. The Beautiful and Colorful Mourning Dove

Even though the female lays only two eggs per nest attempt, they enjoy a protracted breeding season in which multiple nesting attempts can occur every 30 days, and in Southern locations, nearly year round. Use of non-toxic shot when hunting waterfowl has been mandatory, nationwide, since 1991. The Mourning Dove is a prolific breeder.

Racing to Save 2 Samoan Endemics

A field team recently discovered a juvenile Manumea (and documented it with photographs). An Osprey Nest and The Migratory Bird Treaty Act

A letter requesting information on the permit issued to remove the nest got this response from the city, “In reference to your request for documentation for the removal of an active Osprey nest from the light pole at the soccer field, please be advised that none exist.
