According to The Birds of Africa Volume III , “In much of the tropics present throughout the year, with breeding and non-breeding birds usually indistinguishable”.

Light Colored Bald Eagle

It’s an area beloved by photographers for all the Tundra Swans and Bald Eagles that hang out in the area and the surrounding habitat makes for a beautiful backdrop. I was assigned BJ Matzen and he won me over when we nonchalantly leaned over and asked, “You have any interest in seeing a dilute plumage Bald Eagle?”

Upside-down January

I observed White-tailed Eagles likely a few thousand times, and this didn’t strike me as the dark young bird. The next option would be a very dark adult Greater Spotted Eagle … but I wasn’t ready! My scope was still in my rucksack, and by the time I pulled it out, the spook was nowhere to be seen.

She should have bailed but, game gel that she is, took a huge leap, slipped and spread-eagled on landing. Lady Helen’s thundering progress kicked up the turf and brought opportunities for our resident Eurasian Blackbirds. She had already scored 8 faults and a refusal by the time she reached the water.

A Eurasian Blackbird is checking for the remaining maize seeds. A Common Chaffinch is singing, while one male Blackbird chases the other from his precious maize seeds. Birds to see There are 139 bird species recorded within the national park, 96 of them breeding in recent years. The longer I sit, the more focused I become.

What is killing birds at Karla Lake (Greece)?

There was a Short-toed Eagle ahead, taking flight to be replaced by another ST Eagle. In my homeland, some 800 km / 500 mi further north, these ducks are common on migration but very rare in the breeding season and I realized that these are my first young birds – ever. Lesser Kestrel. Western Rock Nuthatch. Eurasian Spoonbills.

Back on the first weekend in May, I attended the Heron Festival at Clear Lake, one of the four aforementioned lakes which also include Eagle Lake, Lake Almanor and the Thermalito Afterbay of Lake Oroville. The boat trip also offered some good looks at the Yellow-headed Blackbirds nesting along the shores.
